JACOB WHOSE NAME WAS CHANGED TO ISRAEL
PICTURE 01 Abrahams son Isaac, was forty years old when he married Rebekah, Rebekah gave birth to twin boys called, Esau and Jacob. PICTURE 02 Esau was a hairy man and grew to be a hunter. PICTURE 03 Jacob was his mother’s favourite, whilst Esau was his father’s. PICTURE 04 One day Esau said to Jacob, “Give me a meal for my inheritance.” PICTURE 05 The deal was done for a bowl of bean soup. PICTURE 06 Isaac who was blind called Esau and said, “My son, catch a deer cook and then I will give you the inheritance.” PICTURE 07 Rebekah said to Jacob, “I will cook a meal, you give it to your father and you will receive the inheritance”. PICTURE 08 Then she put goat skin on the back of his hands and neck. PICTURE 09 Isaac was confused, because he heard Jacob, but smelled Esau. PICTURE 10 So Isaac felt him and asked, “Are you really my son Esau?” PICTURE 11 Jacob replied, “Yes I am” PICTURE 12 Then Isaac blessed Jacob with the inheritance. PICTURE 13 When Esau found out he growled, “He has stolen my inheritance, I will kill him.” PICTURE 14 Rebekah told Jacob, “Esau is planning to kill you. Go to my brother Laban and stay there.” PICTURE 15 So Jacob journeyed to his uncle Laban. PICTURE 16 That evening Jacob had a dream and the Lord spoke; PICTURE 17 “I am the Lord God of Abraham and Isaac. This land shall be given to you, and to your children.” PICTURE 18 The next day Jacob built an altar and worshipped the Lord. PICTURE 19 Whilst Jacob was at a well Rachel, Laban’s daughter came with her sheep. PICTURE 20 “I am Jacob, Rebekah’s son. My mother is the sister of your father Laban.” PICTURE 21 Jacob said to his uncle, “I will work for you for seven years, if you will let me marry Rachel.” PICTURE 22 But the veiled woman that Jacob married, was not Rachel, but was Rachel’s sister Leah. When confronted Laban said; PICTURE 23 “The older sister must marry first.” PICTURE 24 So Jacob worked another seven years to marry Rachael. PICTURE 25 Jacob loved Rachael. PICTURE 26 “Return to the land of your fathers, and I will be with you.” PICTURE 27 After God spoke, Jacob started the journey. On route, messengers came to him saying; PICTURE 28 “Esau is coming to meet you, with four hundred men!” PICTURE 29 Jacob was terrified, so he prayed for help and sent Esau some livestock as a gift. PICTURE 30 That night a man wrestled with Jacob and said; PICTURE 31 “From now on, you shall be called I-s-r-a-e-l” PICTURE 32 Israel saw Esau coming and to his astonishment. Esau greeted him with favour. PICTURE 33 Israel had twelve sons by four wives. These twelve sons became known as the twelve tribes of Israel, or the chil ren of Israel.
