THE 10 MINUTE BIBLE
First undertaken by a gruff Yorkshire man named Wycliffe in the late 1300’s!
A Bible overview is a helicopter panoramic view of the landscape of the whole Bible! It has been said that a Bible overview has helped the layman understand the scriptures more than all of the preaching and teaching in the world!
The books of the Bible are not in chronological order they are primarily divided by the type of literature. For example, Genesis through to Esther, are primarily historical books, Job through to the Song of Solomon are books of poetry, and Isaiah through to Malachi are books of prophecy.
Using a Strong’s concordance for our timeline, today we would like to give you an overview of the whole of the Old Testament. With the exception of the book of Job, we will be using all of the books of the Bible in chronological order.
Just as a jeweler strings pearls together to make a beautiful necklace, so all of the books of the Bible connect together, to make just one story. The Glory Story.
………………………………………………………….
PICTURE 01 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
PICTURE 02 And then God created a man in His own image.
PICTURE 03 The story of Adam & Eve and Adams rebellion against God
PICTURE 04 which is theologically known as “the fall”
PICTURE 05 can be found in the first few pages of the Bible.
PICTURE 06 Adam and Eve had many sons and daughters;
PICTURE 07 one of their descendants was a man called Noah. During Noah’s life
PICTURE 08 men were continually evil all day,
PICTURE 09 so God asked Noah to build an ark, as He had decided to send a flood
PICTURE 10 to cleanse the earth of all unrighteousness. After Noah’s flood

PICTURE 19 they had twins called Jacob & Esau.
PICTURE 20 Jacobs name was changed to Israel,
PICTURE 21 and Israel had four wives and 12 sons. These 12 sons would become known as
PICTURE 22 the children of Israel or the 12 tribes of Israel.
PICTURE 23 Joseph (famous for his coat of many colours) was one of those 12 sons
PICTURE 24 and he was put down a well
PICTURE 25 and then sold as a slave into Egypt by his brothers.
PICTURE 26 Eventually due to a famine about 1,750 B.C.
PICTURE 27 his father Israel, his 11 brothers
PICTURE 28 and all of their wives & children travelled to Egypt,
PICTURE 29 where Joseph had risen to be the prime minister.
PICTURE 30 After Joseph’s death
PICTURE 31 the children of Israel became slaves in Egypt for over 400 years,
PICTURE 32 until God called a deliverer named Moses.
PICTURE 33 Around 1,250 B.C. when Moses was 80 years of age,
PICTURE 34 he challenged the Pharaoh; let the children of Israel go!
PICTURE 35 When the Pharaoh declined,
PICTURE 36 Moses pronounced a judgement of 10 plagues on Egypt,
PICTURE 37 and then led over 2,000,000 Israelites out of Egypt,
PICTURE 38 through the Red Sea
PICTURE 39 into the wilderness of Sinai for 40 years.
PICTURE 40 During this time,
PICTURE 41 God gave Moses the Ten Commandments. When Moses died,
PICTURE 42 Joshua led the 12 tribes of Israel into Canaan,
PICTURE 43 the land that God had promised to Abraham.
PICTURE 44 This land is today known as Israel.
PICTURE 45 After Joshua died
PICTURE 46 God appointed Judges, to judge the 12 families of Israel.
PICTURE 47 The Judges judged Israel for about 250 years,
PICTURE 48 Gideon and Samson were both judges
PICTURE 49 and Ruth lived during the time of the Judges.
PICTURE 50 Samuel was the last judge and the first prophet of Israel.
PICTURE 51 During the time of Samuel around 1,020 years before Christ, we enter the time of the Kings.
PICTURE 52 Samuel the prophet anointed Saul as the first king of Israel.
PICTURE 53 After Saul, David became King.
PICTURE 54 King David wrote a lot of the Psalms and was preceded by his son Solomon,
PICTURE 55 who built the temple for the Lord.
PICTURE 56 King Solomon also wrote 3000 proverbs and 1000 & 5 songs. Also Solomon wrote the book of Ecclesiastes.
PICTURE 57 But because of his reckless behaviour, the Lord took ten tribes from Solomon’s kingdom
PICTURE 58 and left him with just one tribe Judah, for the sake of David his father.
PICTURE 59 The tribe of Judah lived in southern Israel in Jerusalem.
PICTURE 60 Solomon died 930 years B.C.
PICTURE 61 and then there were many other kings,
PICTURE 62 but ever since the Lord took the kingdom from Solomon,
PICTURE 63 there was the kingdom of Judah in the south, and the kingdom of Israel in the north.
PICTURE 64 790 years before Christ, war broke out between Judah and Israel.

PICTURE 77 Josiah reigned until 609 B.C.
PICTURE 78 During Josiah’s reign, Zephaniah prophesied the total destruction of Jerusalem
PICTURE 79 and the dispersion of its inhabitants.
PICTURE 80 Joel’s prophecy also fits into the storyline here,
PICTURE 81 prior to the 70 year Babylonian captivity.
PICTURE 82 In 628 B.C. Jeremiah began to prophecy.
PICTURE 83 In Chapter 25 of his book he prophesied very clearly, there is a 70 year captivity just about to take place.

PICTURE 91 Jeremiah wrote Lamentations which is 5 poems about Jerusalem’s destruction.
PICTURE 92 Ezekiel was taken to Babylon as a slave where he wrote his book.
PICTURE 93 The main message of Ezekiel’s book was that dispersed Israel,
PICTURE 94 a valley of dry bones,

PICTURE 96 Daniel was also taken as a slave and the book we know as Daniel, was actually Daniels journal.

PICTURE 98 Eventually, Nebuchadnezzar died and his son Belshazzar was appointed king.
PICTURE 99 You may recall the incident in Daniel, when the hand wrote on the wall
PICTURE 100 MENE TEKEL UPHARSIN. That was in 539 B.C.
PICTURE 101 and Belshazzar was killed that same night, when Babylon was captured by the Persians
PICTURE 102 and Darius was made king.
PICTURE 103 This is when Daniel was made president.
PICTURE 104 At the end of the 70 year captivity, God spoke to Cyrus the then king of Persia, to set the children of Israel free.
PICTURE 105 The historical records show that a remnant of 43,360 Jews left the captivity,
PICTURE 106 plus a further 7,337 servants but many Israelites remained, unwilling to leave their property.
PICTURE 107 Nehemiah the kings head waiter left Babylon, and started to rebuild the walls in Jerusalem.
PICTURE 108 520 years before Christ, at the urging of the prophets Haggi and Zechariah,

PICTURE 114 The Temple was in a continual state of dis-repair
PICTURE 115 and the Persian Empire was eventually conquered by the Greeks,
PICTURE 116 led by Alexander the Great 334 years before Christ.
PICTURE 117 Eventually the Romans conquered the Greeks and 63 years before the Messiah,
PICTURE 118
the Roman general Pompey the Great, took control of Jerusalem
PICTURE 119 and so it was that the whole land of Israel, became part of the Roman Empire, just as Daniel had prophesied.
PICTURE 120 Under Herod 19 years before Christ, the rebuilding of the third temple began.
PICTURE 121 The next prophet of Israel was John the Baptiser, his message was: Prepare the way for the Lord.”
The purpose of that exercise was to illustrate to you, that the Bible is a simple book to understand, if it is approached correctly. Christian doctrine and theology are different subjects. A 5 year old child can understand the Bible it’s easy!
