A brief history…
The Glory Story Chronological Bible Survey has its humble beginnings way back into the last century in 1993 when John Affleck, the main creator of this work, became a Christian. John, who is not from an academic background, found reading the Bible difficult, to say the least. To overcome this, whenever John saw a second-hand children’s Bible in a charity shop, jumble or car boot sale, he would buy it. For the next five years, all John did was study the Bible in this somewhat unorthodox fashion. As John read and re-read the individual Bible stories, he began to see connections, until it came to the point where he connected all of the stories together as just one!
Where we are…
Today, this connection has a name, The Glory Story Chronological Bible Survey. With the assistance of a small army of helpers, including graphic designers, artists, computer geeks, animators, narrators, musicians, a recording technician, a web designer, a publisher, distributors, marketing consultants, media consultants, and a host of friends (not to mention all the translators that have been involved), The Glory Story is in full use in over 70 countries, and is broadcast by TV stations in the Arabic and Farsi languages in 21 countries. Wycliffe and other mission organizations under license are recreating these Bible stories into many new languages and unheard-of dialects the world over.
The vision…
Let’s face it, as students of the Bible we have all had some weird or fanciful ideas regarding Biblical interpretations at some time. The solution to this problem or at least part of the solution is to know the whole Bible as just one story. We believe very strongly that, when a person can see the big picture of the Bible, their understanding of the scriptures becomes much more balanced, their world view then follows as does the quality of their everyday life. With this in mind, our vision is that, whenever a Bible is distributed, in whatever language, it should be accompanied by The Glory Story Chronological Bible Survey DVD (or a similar easy to understand Bible overview) so that the owner of the Bible has the immediate opportunity to learn the big picture of the Bible before being distracted by detail.
